A good start is always need for any
team because its create positive vibes for everyone in the team.
India defeated South
Africa by six wickets in the first match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. And Rohit Sharma's unbeaten 122 was the
backbone of that match.
Rohit
Sharma has two double centuries (264 and 209) to his credit in the ODI format
but it was his strong innings of 122* against South Africa in ICC Cricket World
Cup 2019.
However, captain Kohli
was happy with Rohit’s innings.
“Rohit played the
perfect innings for that kind of a situation on that kind of a wicket against a
bowling attack that was threatening to pick up wickets at any stage. So, yeah,
in my opinion, by far his best knock,” said the captain. “Some of the balls
were bouncing around and there is always the temptation to hit yourself out of
trouble but he brilliantly controlled his innings and held up one end and we
never thought he was going to throw his wicket away.”
He further added,
“Starting off well is
always an important thing and we got together nicely as a team in the first
half on the field. It is very important to create that energy and we were able
to do that in the first ten and from there, we really built the game nicely and
finished it off in a professional manner.”
Rohit Sharma also spoke about his
innings, calling it an atypical. Rohit Sharma innings during the post-match
presentation. He also added that he couldn't play his natural game, and had to
wait for the right time to play his shots.
"There was something in it
for the bowlers throughout the game, so you had to play out the overs initially
and see what the ball was doing," Rohit said.
India
will look forward to providing another fantastic performance in an upcoming
matches. And India would now be hoping
for Rohit Sharma to remain in form with fellow batsmen rising to the next
match. Now the team faces Australia this Sunday.
